Course Requirements

Before you check into your pre-course skills test the following items must be completed or you will not be allowed to participate in your registered course and you will be marked unsuccessful.

  • Register and Log into your Blueray Aquatics Portal  
  • Be at least 17 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the course. 
  • Possess a current basic-level certification in Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED. 
  • Successfully complete the online Introduction to the Lifeguarding Instructor Course prior to the pre-course skills session via the class roster and online content completion status report. Your link for this course will be sent by the American Red Cross via email approximately 1 week prior to your course date. 
  • Obtain all instructor and participant materials before entering the first session of the instructor course.

What to bring to your course

  • Face mask (for in-person skills sessions) 
  • Lifeguard Participant Manual (digital)
  • Lifeguard Instructor’s Manual (printed)
  • Proof of age (government ID) 
  • Online course completion certificate 
  • Pen or pencil 
  • Bathing suit (one piece for women)
  • Towel 
  • UV protection (e.g. sun block, rashguard, sunglasses, hats) 
  • Comfortable clothes and comfortable change of clothes 
  • Packed lunch (You will not have the opportunity to purchase lunch)

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is your policy on refunds or rescheduling?

    Blueray will provide a full refund if the course is dropped 14-days prior to your scheduled course. A 75% refund will be provided with a 10 day notice. A 50% refund will be given with a 7 day notice.

    If you need to transfer to a future date, we will need a 1-week notice and a $75.00 transfer fee will be applied. (note- lifeguarding courses are in high-demand, the next available course might not be available until the following month. Please plan accordingly)

  • How do I access the online course?

    Your instructor will assign you a voucher and the American Red Cross will email you the link for your online course approximately 1 week prior to your course date.

  • I’ve completed my course. How do I get my certificate?

    After you have successfully completed your lifeguarding instructor certification course, you can retrieve your certificate by visiting https://www.redcross.org/take-a-class/digital-certificate . Your certificate will also be emailed by the American Red Cross to the email provided. Course results are submitted by your instructor within 2-days.
